The Ravens

Description

'I catch ravens in the night.

Mama I catch ravens in the night.

They swoop and they soar outside my bedroom door,

with little inky feathers and flashes of hues;

their resin beaks and little prickly feet.

Oh mama I catch ravens in the night.

Mama I catch ravens in flight.

They come as they go, no time that I set will get them to come to,

sometimes at dusk and sometimes at dawn;

they caw and they clatter on the root gutter as they patter,

tap at the window and then fly, out of sight.

Mama, oh mama I catch ravens in flight.

Mama, the ravens what a sight.

People complain about the others who take to the night,

call them selfish and rude for taking their life loose,

they have them tied to the noose and kept tight.

Oh but mama, the ravens what a sight.

Mama the ravens are taking me tonight.

They come with my thoughts,

with my little ink pot.

Drawn in black bird writing,

the ravens are coming for me tonight.

It will be brilliant, you wait,

you'll see me gone by morning light!

Mama the ravens caught me tonight.

Oh what a sight.'

In some parts ravens are considered to be a sign of bad luck, death, treachery. Especially in the bible where the raven was sent to give a message by god however never delivered it and as such god made their feathers black to show disgust and darkness. However in others they are a sign of knowledge intelligence and fortune, such as the 'cras' meaning tomorrow in Latin. As such it is often used as a symbol of future and present, knowledge, curiosity etc.

So interpret it as is, do with this knowledge as you see it, take it with you or don't, it will still be there tomorrow.
